What we treat
Urgent care is for problems that need attention today but aren’t life-threatening. Common reasons people come in:
- Cuts and lacerations that need cleaning or closing
- Minor burns from cooking, hot water or the sun
- Sprains, strains and suspected minor fractures after a fall, a sports injury or a twisted ankle
- Sudden illness, such as a fever, a cough, a sore throat or an earache
- Wound checks and dressing changes after an injury
Treatment often starts in the room: pain injections, breathing treatments for a flare of asthma or a chest infection, and medicines given on site. We don’t have an X-ray machine in the clinic. If the exam suggests a fracture that needs imaging, we’ll tell you where to go for the X-ray and follow up with you on the result.
When to go to the ER or call 911
Not sure which you need? Our guide to urgent care or the emergency room walks through the difference with everyday examples.
How a same-day urgent visit works
- Walk in during clinic hours, or call us at (281) 984-4550 or request a visit and tell us briefly what happened.
- When you arrive, we’ll ask about the injury or symptoms, your medicines and any allergies.
- The doctor examines you. If a test would help, lab work, an EKG or an ultrasound can often be done here.
- Treatment starts at the visit where possible, whether that’s cleaning and dressing a wound, a pain injection, a breathing treatment or a medicine given on site.
- Before you leave, you’ll know what to watch for at home and when to follow up.
Urgent care inside a family practice
When urgent care sits inside a family practice, the visit doesn’t end at the front door. If you’re already our patient, your history and medicines are on file. If you’re new, the same clinic can see you again for the follow-up, and for primary care after that if you’d like.
Hours, location and insurance
Same-day urgent visits are available during clinic hours, Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM. We’re closed evenings and weekends, so if something serious happens while we’re closed, go to the nearest emergency room or call 911.
You’ll find us on Clay Road in west Houston (77084), serving Bear Creek, Copperfield, Katy and Cypress. Most major plans are accepted here, Medicare and Medicaid among them, and self-pay patients are welcome. Check your plan before you come if you can.
Bring with you
- A photo ID and your insurance card
- A list of your medicines and any allergies
- For an injury: when and how it happened
- For a cut or a burn: the date of your last tetanus shot, if you know it
- For a child coming with an adult who isn’t their parent: a signed authorization to treat a minor
Common questions
Do I need an appointment for urgent care?
No. Walk-ins are always welcome during clinic hours, Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM. If you’d rather call ahead, (281) 984-4550 lets us tell you what to expect when you arrive, and you can request a visit online.
Should I go to urgent care or the emergency room?
Urgent care suits problems that need seeing today but aren’t life-threatening, such as a cut that needs closing, a sprain or a fever. For chest pain, trouble breathing, stroke signs, severe bleeding or a serious head injury, call 911 or go to the ER. Our guide to urgent care or the ER explains more.
Can urgent care treat a broken bone?
We treat sprains, strains and suspected minor fractures. There’s no X-ray machine in the clinic, so if the exam points to a fracture that needs imaging, we’ll tell you where to have the X-ray done and follow up on the result. A bone pushing through the skin, or a limb that is badly out of shape, needs the emergency room.
Are you open on weekends?
No. V-Care is open Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM. If you need care while we’re closed and it’s serious, go to the nearest emergency room, and call 911 in an emergency.
Does insurance cover an urgent care visit?
We accept most major plans, including Medicare and Medicaid, and cash patients are welcome. What you pay depends on your plan, so check with your insurer if cost is a concern. You can see every plan we accept.
